Emissions from tropical deforestation constitute up to 20% of global emissions (more than the entire global transportation sector) and in combination with related land-use change in the tropics and sub-tropics, account for up to a third of total emissions. It is impossible to achieve stabilization of global climate by mid-century unless there is a substantial reduction in tropical and subtropical deforestation rates. Established in 2006, SFM Africa Ltd was formed with the specific aim of investing and developing sustainable conservation development businesses in Africa that will actively reduce deforestation and degradation threats and promote forest conservation and wise use.
