Context

Tropical and subtropical deforestation and non-optimal management landscapes are often due to lack of tangible benefits or true resource values placed on landscapes. Emissions from tropical deforestation constitute up to 20% of global emissions - more than the entire global transportation sector - and in combination with related land-use change account for up to a third of total emissions.

Established in 2006, SFM Africa Ltd was formed with the specific aim of investing and developing sustainable conservation development businesses in Africa that will actively reduce deforestation and degradation threats and promote forest landscape conservation and wise use of natural capital. SFM Africa's business strategy is the result of more than 15 years of continuous applied research and development (since 1999 under the SFM Ltd group companies) and SFM Africa is establishing itself as a leader in its field and intends to set the bench-mark standard for investment in tropical and subtropical forest landscapes in Africa.
